A man rides into town with a grave warning.
A dead man came to town one night,
Ropes bound him to his mare.
The paper in his pocket warned us,
The Devil stalks these Lands. Beware.

We buried the man the next morning
The butcher took the horse
We gathered in the Square that day
And ate without remorse

Sugar maple shade stretched across the Square
Grim fingers tickled at cold feet
The Devil may not be so bad, we think
He gave us all this meat

The cobbler made us shoes from leather;
We boiled the last to survive
The Devil may not be so bad, we say
For him, we are alive

A scared man came to town last night
We know, we know,
The Devil stalks these Lands, you warn.
But He does not stalk alone
