A short poem about recognizing sadness.
Ah Despair

Ah, Despair.
The canyon has such depth.
And the valley is so wide.
So many ways to slide.
Never to return to where you slept.

Well-trained eyes focus on the worst.
Where is hope?
Pinned against the walls and hidden.
Drowned in tears unbidden.
Ears pricked with sounds…thorned rose.

Maybe just moans echoed from the bereft.
Untethered to any shore.
Lost in every sea.
As lost as me.
I used to be so much more.

Ah, Despair.
You’ve lured my soul.
You just can’t let me be.
Why would he or she?
What good a broken bowl?
