A poem I wrote in honor of my brother, who lost his battle with cancer at the age of 7.
So many lives are brighter from meeting you,
And seeing you live life to the fullest each day,
Doing more in seven years than most adults do,
And with a bright smile every step of the way.

You’re a police officer walking the thin blue line,
Keeping those around you safe and sound,
Lending your strength to make sure others are fine,
Giving so many people reasons to fight another round.

You’re a firefighter guarding the thin red line,
Always ready to jump into action in perfect time,
With a blazing spirit and not one to whine,
With a heart more pure than those in their prime.

You lit up the lives of all around you,
And many more who know your name,
Now it’s time for us to light the world for you,
And show you love that burns hotter than any flame.
