What you see may not be what you get
Inside my mind
I die each day
without a whisper
to finally say
what lies beneath
the shell you see
shadows of the real me

My soul weeps silently
with the secrets that it keeps
the passions that flicker
extinguished by defeat
Rejection plays a melody
Weeping willows brush away
the tears I cry every day

One day the ash will blow on by
Releasing me new paths to walk
But first I must put to rest
The words I have been taught to talk
The doubt, the guilt, the shame inside
Must be the things that I don't give
A place inside my head to live
