Poem of an old home.
The news came quite suddenly
I didn't expect it
I had wished for it but
Never saw it coming

We had to get rid of our house
There it was
Plain and simple
30 days to evacuate

To tell the truth I was glad inside
We had never been rich
The house a little run down
A secret shame of mine.

The floor creaked
The roof leaked
The doors squeaked
The house was a racket

Yet as we pack and the moving day comes
My heart is sad
Although the house has it cracks
I can hear the wood telling a story

The stain on the wood from when I spilled paint
The creak from letting the tub overflow
The crack in the wall from when I fell
The laughter stained into the corners

The old house has kept us and sheltered us
And I was ready to let it go without a goodbye
I cry now thinking of all the times with family
Friends spending the night
Arguments and makeups and news: good and bad.

This old house has seen it all
My storyteller
And now we must go
Bye House
