How would you describe love?
The sweetest of emotions, love
By what shall I call your name?
What phrase or word would capture
The complexity of your feeling?

Shall I call you a whisper
Like a feather drifting on a breezeless day?
Or will you be a forceful shout
Proclaiming yourself from the highest peak?

Can I say you are a mighty roaring wave
Eroding the shores of my resolve?
Or perhaps you are a slowly dripping tap?
Quietly, gently insinuating yourself

Has someone said you are a desert sun,
Searing any soul laid open to you?
But then you may be the desert's oasis,
Providing refreshment and respite in a harsh world.

Love, are you known by any other name?
Maybe desire, like, lust or affection
Or even fondness, adoration, ardour or eros?
No my love - you are all these, yet none.
