A storm symbolises the end of an era

The thunderstorm roared around the canyon rim,
Silence died so many years before.
Some might have said the storm itself was beautiful,
But it made my heart feel so sore.
What is beauty without someone to share it with?

I looked up to the lightening torn sky,
Knowing deep inside my soul the truth,
This world had already begun to die.

I stood there all alone on the Grand Canyon ledge,
For one whole day and long summer night,
Weeping at the misery that had broken everything.
Knowing nothing could make this right.
What use is love at the end of a world?

Every day when I was a child we hurt the Earth.
We threw the world away before we knew her worth.
