Her lovely locks and loving stare; But still I fear her lovely harm
For this candid beauty my heart does ache
This gentle woman, this playful waif
And if allowed my heart she’d take
So I stand afar, where I know it’s safe

Enthralled I am of my lady fair
With her passion and her charm
Her lovely locks and loving stare
But still I fear her lovely harm

For love is fickle and most uncertain
A cunning mask for so many a thing
Like a player behind a curtain
But is he Brutus with a dagger’s sting?

I’ve loved before and the mask exposed
Finding grief and emptiness hid beneath
And of all the ballads I’ve composed
Still tear my heart with lonesome grief

For this one I am almost willing
To join again this masquerade
A costume needs me a filling
Hold courage; steadfast, do not fade
