Looking up past the treetops, I see the beauty of the night lights -

NIGHT LIGHTS

Looking up past the treetops,
I see the beauty of the night lights -
The moon is full and shines
With an iridescent glow,
Perhaps a sign of a storm
In the offing.
Eyes adjusting to the darkness
Around me, still looking
Up to the Heavens -
I see the reassuring glow
Of starlight;
And then -
A shooting star -
Streaking across the sky,
Leaving in its wake
A streak of light, fading slowly
And disappearing.
The stars twinkle far above me;
I feel small, insignificant, yet
I also feel that I
Am a part of the universe.
Those who choose to sleep
When darkness closes in
Are missing the beauty
Of night lights.
