This is a poem from my teen-angst phase about a dead seagull I saw on the road.
Your golden eyes
Once so full of life
Facing each day's adventures and challenges
HEAD ON
Now gaze blankly upward
Unseeing

Your powerful snow-white wings
Like those of an angel
Minutes earlier, carrying you through the
Infinite skies
S t r e t c h i n g o n f o r e v e r
Flappingflappingflappingflapping

~Carefree~

SPLAT!!!
Now they are no more,
S p l a y e d o u t
Like twig arms on a child's snowman
Hastily attached
As an
Afterthought

All around you, people go by
In their climate-controlled steel bubbles
Of blissful apathy,
As you lie in a putrid, crimson pool
Of your lost vitality
