Another poem I wrote when I was 15, inspired by a particularly difficult outtrip at camp.
On a trail that shows no mercy
Each hill steeper and rockier than the last,
I forge onward, onward
Though my feet cry out with every step,
I know I must go on
For soon enough, this gruelling trip
Will end, and pain be gone.

In a vast expanse of water,
With horizons all around,
I paddle onward, onward
Though my arms cry out with every stroke,
I know I must go on
For soon enough, this gruelling trip
Will end, and pain be gone.

We have reached the site, it's sunset
And the pain has left my being.
I look around my landscape,
And take in what I am seeing.
The shadows from the trees,
The glimmer from the lake,
I realize all this suffering
Was worth it for beauty's sake
