Facing the older me head-on!

Outgrowing it is quite a task
One that I find amusing -
The life that I'm leading now
Is not one of my choosing!

For many years my honest goal
Was to find a love so true!
Now I've been there, done that;
And I met a few I rue!

Practice should make perfect,
And when I was in my prime -
I believed in fairy tales
And lived them all the time!

A wedding ring of shining gold
He put upon my hand -
It wouldn't last forever;
But I didn't understand!

On my shoulder sat a monster
With eyes of deepest green;
I learned not to trust anyone
And my heart was growing mean!

Yet I still dreamed of happiness
And I still believed in love;
Broken hearts really do mend,
And when push comes to shove

You really can survive it all
If you give your life a chance;
You may forget the music
But you don't forget the dance!

So here alone I sit and smile
Of the places that I've been;
And no more do I shed a tear
When love I didn't win!

My hair has turned to silver,
It doesn't bother me a bit!
It seems that life is better
Now that I'm outgrowing it!

I didn't plan on being alone
When I was old and gray;
But I have friends and family
Who help me on my way!

So the message of this story
Is to never give up hope -
As long as you are outgrowing it,
You'll find a way to cope!
