FROM THE ASHES

We are but bits of sodden clay,
Molded from the time of birth;
Living in a smoke filled world
Ever trying to find our worth.

We strive for happiness as best we can,
Learning life's lessons along the way;
Accomplishing so much more beyond
Than what's expected of simple clay.

Smoke rises from the ashes
Of dreams we've kept inside our heart;
In the end, will it all matter
When it's time for us to depart?

Clay and smoke deliver
Us to life on earth, I'm told -
What we choose will make the difference:
Paths to hell or streets of gold.
