I wonder what my dryer thinks and what he'd say if he could talk to me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Note to Children:
Picture your box-like dryer.
Doesn't it look lonely?
It stands next to the washing machine.
But are they friends?
Imagine that dryer could talk.
Pretend that he could tell you everything he thought.
I wonder what he'd say.
I think he wishes he were an alien.
I bet that's his secret desire.
He does look rather like an alien.
We could pretend it, anyway.
I wish I could understand him.
I'll pretend I can.
In fact, I can pretend anything I want.
Of course, I'd never open his door.
That would not be polite!
I'd simply talk to him.
And I'll imagine what he'd say.
Sometimes I could read him stories that I wrote.
What fun my pretend alien would be!
Here's a poem I wrote about my dryer.
Now you must write one and send it to me!
I wonder what your alien (or robot) dryer will say!
This is an illustration for a poem about the dryer we steals socks.
The Sci-Fi Dryer
I’m just a silly dryer
Who no one ever sees.
But you could pretend.
Won’t you visit, please?
Imagine I could talk
Just like everyone you know.
You could teach me lots.
You could name me Joe.
I’d like to get a present
All wrapped up with a bow.
It wouldn’t have to cost much,
Just a box and a big hello.
How I wish I were an alien,
For there’d be lots of crowds,
And people would be nice to me.
They’d make me feel so proud.
They’d gather all around me,
And ask me about my trip.
I’d be real cool and let them guess.
I’d say nothing about my ship.
They’d probably want to know
What far-off planet I'd journeyed from.
My thoughts about shirts and socks,
And why I’d decided to come.
How sweet that would be
To have so many friends.
But since I’m only a dryer
It would all come to an end.
For alas, I’m not an alien.
I’m just plain robot "I."
But if only you'd pretend,
Why then, we'd have "Sci-Fi!"
