Story Written In Rhyme Dedicated To My Six Grandchildren
On a lily pad in a little creek,
Sat six little frogs, not making a peep.

They gazed at the stars and the moon in the sky,
They watched the moths flitter and fly.

The little frogs are cousins, you see,
They all play together ‘neath a big willow tree.

Philip the bull frog has three in his brood,
Steven’s little tadpole is sweet Taylor Boo.

Britney, Rachelle, and Chris their brother,
Not looking like Philip, but more like their mother.

Joey’s two frogs are Brian and Sam,
Their favorite food is peanut butter with jam.

One little frog, Brian, I think
Smiled at Chris and gave him a wink.

He had an idea to play a small joke,
So turning to Chris, he gave him a poke.

“Bring Rachelle with you, leap ‘cross the pond.
Do it quietly, don’t make a sound.

We’ll gather some spiders to scare Taylor Boo,
Then tease the others and frighten them too.”

They were huddled together on one lily pad,
When the girls leaped over to see what they had.

Chris grinned with delight as he let go his spider,
Britney shrieked in terror as it sat down beside her.

Taylor leaped up; on a branch hit her head,
Sammy ran home and hid under her bed.

Rachelle giggled as her spider ran wild,
It ran after Britney to the delight of this child.

Steven and Philip hopped onto the pad,
Philip then bellowed “Okay, now I’m mad.”

The boys were laughing, they chuckled and snickered,
Steven got angry; “You’re evil and wicked.”

Then Joey hopped over; with a gleam in her eye,
“They’re scaredy-cats too, and I’ll show you why.”

She pulled from her pocket a long garden snake,
To show her brothers the point she would make.

She chased the boys and Rachelle too,
She threw the snake at Brian’s shoe.

Joey chuckled with glee at the sight of their fright,
She then hopped away into the night.

The boys shook their heads and looked at each other,
While Brian just muttered, “How silly my mother.”

With their parents all gone, and without any sorrow,
Chris picked up the snake, “We’ll get the girls tomorrow.”
