Fancy dress and dance is fine, but don't forget things sublime
FANCY DRESS

Sing and dance, enjoy this night.
Savour the colorful light.
Admire your fancy dress, feel,
Touch and kiss and have your meal.

But in this colorful eve,
Where all is but make believe,
Think for a tiny moment
Of the poor children’s torment.

People o’er half of the earth,
Live without a home or hearth.
They don’t have enough to eat
And cannot make two ends meet.

They don’t have a roof on head,
And, in hot sand, barefoot tread.
With naked body and feet,
They strive to fill basic need.

Maybe when you think of this,
You will falter in your bliss.
Maybe you might deem useless
To dance in your fancy dress.

NOTE—Written in the backdrop of a fancy dress ball.
