Down in the Dell

There is a small village
That lies in a valley.
It knows not of pillage,
Just dilly and dally.

They call their cats ‘kitty’,
Each steer has a stall.
The pigs, pink and pretty,
Are called ‘Butterball’.

The people are happy,
Surrounded by hills.
Their maple trees, sappy;
Lakes filled with bluegills.

Life—it is mellow,
Each sunset, God- blessed.
Flowers—all yellow…
No one is depressed.

So if your name’s Billy
Or Millie or Sally,
And you like it hilly
Within a small valley,

You’ll find not a worry—
Who cares if you stammer?
No reason to hurry
Or learn perfect grammar.

Your name may be Jimmy
Or possibly Bobby,
Perhaps it is Timmy
Or Gabby or Robby.

By chance you are thinner
Or maybe you’re fatter.
Here, you’re a winner!
Such things do not matter.

Abuse does not tarry
And drugs do not dwell
Within life, so merry,
Way down in the dell.

There’s always a valley—
A place beyond sorrow
To dilly and dally,
No fear of tomorrow.
