Political sonnet.
You sent us to the hills of fire ants
to battle angry warriors in the sand.
You cited as the reason for your stance
the end of dictatorial command.

One by one, we pulled them from the mounds
and told them how it feels to be so free.
We caught their leader hiding underground
and thrust him into our democracy.

While some embraced the principles we held,
the others remained steadfast to the end.
They took our children with them as they fell.
With suicidal stings, they did defend.

Now it seems for every ant we faced,
another, twice as angry, took his place.
