Alice: German name, meaning "truth". A poem about duality and false appearances
Peering into the Mirror,
She searches vainly for herself.
She tucks her flowing hair-
Iridescent, and as ebony as a raven's wing-
Behind her snow white ear.
She studies her beautiful face-
Her blood-red, perfect lips,
Her proud chin, flawless nose, carefully applied make-up,
And skin, soft as a rabbit's coat.
Her attention is drawn to a pair of tears-
Two ocean drops, disturbing
Her dark mascara...
And then, she finds it.

Hiding in shadow, behind her curled bangs,
Confident countenance, beauty of a goddess,
Two eyes meet her gaze in the Mirror-
Radiantly green,
They defy their owner's perfection;
Her poise is plunged into chaos,
Her fearlessness is reduced
To a lost, scared little girl,
Her smile is a Cheshire cat's-
Permanent, and the rest of her fades away.
She touches up her make-up,
And returns to tea...
The Queen was betrayed by her Heart.
