Freedom of religion?

SILENT PRAYERS

When we can no longer
say a prayer in school,
when we don't care about
abiding by the Golden Rule;

When religion becomes
a question of true belief,
when we don't acknowledge
the need to see the grief

In the eyes of children
who have no faith or trust;
when we do the devil's work,
there comes a time we must

Offer up silent prayers
to the one who sees our need,
asking Him to help us now
and plant yet another seed

Of kindness in our hearts
and an easing of our cares,
no matter what, we always have
a chance to utter silent prayers.

Freedom of religion sought
by those who founded this land;
giving hope to everyone
but we should understand

That those who have faith
need to speak aloud their love
of the faith they hold inside,
and that they can rise above

The petty little arguments
of whose religion is the one
that should be followed,
for when all is said and done

It really doesn't matter
what we believe to be true;
we have the right to pray
and I think it's time - we do!
