THE ROBIN SONG

I first heard it in early Spring,
A welcome sound, a lovely thing;
The robin song so sweet and clear
bringing music to my ear.

Summer came, and I saw the nest -
High in the tree, one of the best;
The tiny eggs of baby blue
would soon become a bird or two.

I watched the robin feed her young,
all too soon the chore was done;
Tiny birds took flight and were gone
but the robin's song lingered on.

Signs of Fall, chill in the air,
no sign of my robin anywhere.
She's gone South, I know she's rather;
But she left behind a soft blue feather.

I picked it up and put it away,
hoping that she'll come back one day;
Spring will come again, won't be long
until once more I hear the robin song.
