A poem about the loss of a once loving friend.
“You’re no longer my friend!
Oh, how it saddens me to see
our loving relationship at its end.
For years you were so kind to me.

“Once you made me feel good
about myself. Looking at you,
my smile mirrored by yours, would
be uplifting. This is no longer true.

“I can’t recall when first you began
to subject me to your daily assaults,
but nowadays I know that I can
count on you to find all my faults.

“Every day I reflect upon what to do,
since I simply must spend time with you.
You will never become my friend again,
but I’m stuck with you to the bitter end.”

(Dear reader, what situation would prompt
such remarks? Your guess is…)
