Another poem about love and loss and roses
I stand here
in the final pains of sunset,
 clutching myself -
 trying to keep the chill
 from settling upon my flesh
Remaining sentient - helpless -
as I watch the rose die -
Blood red fading
 into darkness.
Tears begin to well up from my soul
 as I watch beauty
 demolished.
My heart aches
and there's nothing I can do,
 or could've done,
 to prevent it.
'One rose' they told me
'It's only a rose. Let it go.'
But I couldn't.
The pain of losing another love
was more than my soul could bear.
My knuckles grew white -
I held on for as long as I could
 but it wasn't enough.
I looked at my torn, bloodied hands
 and thought, Is it ever?
Is it enough to wake up each night
 crying -
Dreaming of a lost rose
 whose name evades my mind...
