Leaving a loved one is tragic
Aaron

Pictures in a blue envelope,
You've grown little boy.
They cut off your baby curls.
I remember how it felt like silk
when I ran my fingers through your hair;
while I sang you lullabies.
It felt like I'd been stabbed over and over
with each snip of the scissors.
A casualty of war.
I couldn't take you with me,
you weren't only mine;
but I love you as if you were.
It was just the price of leaving.
Even in the happiness I've found,
when I look at your smiling face
I wonder.
Will you understand why I had to leave you?
Will you remember the songs I wrote for you?
How much I love you?
Or did I pay too much.
