A paper wish! A piece of paper finds itself in the hands of a dame.
A SCRAP OF PAPER

Yes, I am but paper scrap,
Yet my own mind do I have.

Not only a mind it’s true,
I have a tiny heart too!

One which has been so obscure,
It escaped attention your.

But now that I’m in your hand,
I feel I am in love land.

Let me then tell you but this,
My one and the only wish:

‘Ere I meet my final fate
At the incinerator grate,

I wish you pick up your pen
And on me write freely then

Your feelings for your fiancee
For only his eyes to see’.

Let me have satisfaction
That your this lovely action

Was completed but through me.
Blessed, thus, my destiny!

• Written in aa bb, 7-7 format.

• A light poem, written for a contest related prompt—“If I were a scrap of paper”.
