It is foolish to be distracted from the righteous path in the face of ridicule
ONLY FOOLS LIKE ME—a sonnet

You say fools like me only tolerate
Insults heaped on me by the tongues unkind.
I need not my innocence demonstrate
To truth when my accusers are so blind?

Let me on my path fearless proceed
Though it may be thorny and rather steep.
To sounds of caution why should I pay heed?
My commitment to Him I have to keep.

Though my mortal remains may lie in grave;
My soul has to yet reach up to Him higher.
Unsullied I must preserve what He gave.
Of my soul why Satan should be the buyer?

Without stopping you must go up the hill.
The day is done, the path untrodden still.
