Frances is the name of the devastating hurricane and my devasted grandmother.
Frances

September 5, 2004

It is so very tempting to wish for complete destruction.
Another flood.
I really think its time to start over.
They talk about the healing powers of water, the clearing wind
Why do you think so many people go TO the beach during a hurricane?

It is natural to those black-clad surfboard carrying sisters and ponytail swinging mothers holding children in their arms
To tempt the Ocean
To dare the Winds
Take me
Destroy the confusion
Our foremothers survived quite well without beach houses for their holiday, Starbucks on Sunday or more than 99 thousand churches to choose from

Frances closed the churches
She silences the preaching men and praising women

Hearken to me, says Frances
I am all you need to know
I carry with me complete destruction
I really think its time to start over

Hearken to me, says Frances
Clean up your room or I’ll throw everything in the yard

Hearken to me, says Frances
People who live in glass houses should never throw stones
And if you make such ugly faces, you might just freeze that way

I really think it’s time to start over.
