Sometimes poetry takes me down crazy roads
Ramblings of a Crazy Man

I have a tree growing out of my ear,
Perhaps that's why the pine's voice I do hear.

It bids me to scale the branches to its peak and sing.
I do as it wishes, but then I feel a sharp sting.

A little ant had chosen to climb aboard my foot for a ride.
Winking, I asked if I tasted good, the ant's pleasure did not hide.

The little ant smiled and told me a story of another he did taste.
I gave my new little friend my full attention, without words or haste.

It would seem he had once come across a young maiden of beauty so sweet.
He rushed to her, already tasting what was to be a succulent treat.

But, much to his surprise, she was a sour and distasteful meal.
Mustn't judge by looks I told my little friend, much they can conceal.

My new friend and I parted ways, and I continued singing my song.
Soon, the sun and the birds joined in, and we joyfully sang all day long.

The night approaches, and I regret I must depart.
I thank the pine, the sun, and the birds with all my heart.

It's not very often I am invited to take part in such fun.
Who would have thought, a tree in the ear can bring you closer to the sun?
