Flag Day is past (Jun 14) Jul 4th is soon upon us. Do we need a constitutional amendment?
The Flag is a symbol to which we all rally.
It represents freedom to Tom, Dick & Sally.
They say it is honor and dignity that our flag deserves.
But it’s the Flag’s meaning we wish to preserve.

I fought in three wars and my flag it was there,
Unfurled & flowing, wind blowing it lightly high in the air.
It must be protected; the Constitution amended.
Is that what our forefathers really intended?

We should look upon our flag with honor and pride.
While following the flag into battle so many died.
They died for the freedom the flag represents.
Not for the cloth, but for its values, it only makes sense.

The friends I have left on battlefields past.
Will cry from their graves, the die has been cast.
That the Flag is so sacred; that no one renounces it?
Brings a death kneel to freedoms to which warriors commit.

When as a country we lose site of the values that we hold.
Those who believe in freedom must be strong, must be bold.
Stand up for what is right, speak loud, start screaming.
Stand up not for the Flag as a symbol, but for its true meaning.
