A Ghazal about Ghost Ranch, NM
The Red Rocks
a Ghazal

The Sacred Mystery can be found in the spine of the red rocks.
I find my peace, my center, in the Divine of the red rocks.

Such beauty, such vivid and stark wonder here, vibrant colors
explode before my eyes at the first sign of the red rocks.

My love and I take a picnic up the mountain
We toast each other, and life, with the wine of the red rocks.

Sunrise and sunset paint masterpieces each day
illuminating my path by the shine of the red rocks.

Susan finds her heart’s home here in this ghostly place
among the cathedral of the red rocks.

A Ghazal is 5-12 couplets, with a refrain, a rhyme, or an exact rhyme on the second line of each couplet.
The couplets don't have to connect or make logical sense or tell a story; often they explore a theme and its
variations, and often they are a bit mystical! The ghazal is a Persian form meaning "sweet talk" or "the talk
of boys and girls" and traditional themes are love, flirtation, and drinking wine!
A traditional ending includes the poet's name in the last stanza.
