My hand at free form poetry And I still ended up rhyming. A work in progress...
I'll always remember,
it's sad to say.

I thought our love would last
thought it was here to stay.

I learned that they were right
when we were told that we were too young.

I look around wonder
where the last 20 years have gone.

I see you sitting in a chair
with your children at your feet

Kids I never knew
but would like to someday meet.

I wonder if I would recognize them
if I saw them in the street.

Looking for your pale blonde hair
and your eyes of baby blue

Not even knowing what would I say
about a past that we once knew.

And the life you now lead
As my heart continues to bleed.

I remember us holding hands
the feeling of love surrounding our hearts,

as we walked down the street of our youth.
I felt that we would never be apart.

I have no clue where to go from here
as I sit alone in the dark,

Looking at the drink I hold in my hand.
Wishing I was still holding your heart.

I can't seem to go forward.
And I know I can't go back.

Time seemed to have slipped through my hand
like an hourglass that only holds sand.
