MEMORIAL DAY.
.....(VETERAN'S DAY)

To a foreign land they were destined to go,
To battle against their country's foe.
Side by side they fought and did not know
If they would return to see their children grow.

Many fell in the field with gun in hand,
Fighting for freedom in another's land.
For what? They didn't quite understand.
But they fought with pride this heroic band.

Some came home, medals on their chest.
Medals that told they had done their best.
Though memories of how they had passed this test
Still haunts the minds that will not rest.

Heroes they are, in more ways than one,
Not only for the battles they fought or won,
But for the strength they have to carry on
Still fighting the memories of days long gone.


Just who is this Veteran of whom we are proud?
How easy is it to pick him out in a crowd?
Funny - He looks just like you or me.
But this Veteran gave much so that we might be free.

He could be the man who lives down the street.
Or the lady at K-Mart you chance to meet.
Of deeds he has done, he won't brag or boast,
He doesn't profess to be better than most.

He keeps in touch with those of his kind
And never forgets ones they left behind.
He'll talk of his mates and the bonds that were made,
Not traumatic tales of a battle or raid.

He will march with his unit and hold his head high
And we'll wave a small flag as he passes by.
He's humble - he's proud - he's troubled - he's grey,
Honour him and the Fallen on Veteran's Day.
