I squandered what I had and spurned the poor. Now that I am spurned, why blame others?
ONLY MYSELF TO BLAME: a sonnet

I do not have a roof over my head.
I don’t know if my next meal I will get.
I’ve forgotten the softness of a bed.
My clothes are dirty, stinking, rather wet.

I too have known better days in my life.
There was a time was life to me was kind.
I knew not then of poverty and strife.
To others’ woes and hardships I was blind.

If world to me is not benevolent,
For this only I myself am to blame.
Why should I feel now so much repentant?
Ups and downs are found there in every game.

My friend, save always for the rainy day.
Always to the Lord for his kindness pray.
