How many true loves are there? (Written for The Dialogue 500 Contest))
“Don’t you agree with me?”
“Yeah, I do, Sally.”
“It’s true love. It’s true love what we feel.”
“Yeah. I know.”
“So we must tell them make them understand, Tommie.”
“But when? How? Maybe not right now.”
"Yes, now. I don’t know how to tell them. We must find the right time and moment.”
“They have to understand, don’t you think so?”
“Do you think they know what true love is?”
“I don’t know, not sure, Sally.”
“Maybe they do. Maybe they know things about love. I am sure they do. How many true loves are there, Tommie?”
“Hmm. well. Let’s see. I know that there is love at first sight, sweet love, hate love, forbidden love.”
“Timeless love.”
“Yeah, like in the film The Beauty and the Beast.”
“Yes, Tommie. And sacrificial love, love triangles, obsessive love, happy love, sad love, and …”
“Unresolved love, selfish love, romantic love.”
“And tragic love like in Romeo and Juliet, and…”
“Heroic love like in Titanic. What else?”
“Love, plain and simple.”
“And platonic love.”
“Yeah, but this one is kind of silly, Tommie.”
“And what about same sex love, Sally?”
“I don’t think that is silly.”
“How about overwhelming love?”
“Like in Dirty Dancing?"
“Triumphant love?”
“For sure like in that film Notting Hill."
“Do you think our love is like in the film Slum Dog Millionaire?”
“Maybe more like in Juno, but without the baby. I loved that film.”
“You did? It’s my favorite ever.”
“Whom did you watch it with, Tommie?”
“With Maya.”
“With Maya? The one that is always wearing that funny pony-tail?”
“Yeah. She just happened to be there. So I sat next to her, that’s all. Don’t you get upset, okay?”
“Hey, one more. Jealous love.”
“Yes, and forgiving love, right Sally?”
“Crazy love, emotional love, and spiritual love like in Ghost.”
“Nice film that one.”
“Nice film? NICE film? It’s a great film! True love. Every time it’s on TV I stop whatever I’m doing and watch it, and cry.”
“Is ours a one time true love per lifetime, Sally?”
“Like soul mate love?”
“Yeah. Love is a funny thing, huh?”
“Yeah. It’s the world’s most intense mystery."
“I know another one. Puppy love.”
“Puppy love?”
“Yeah Sally, it’s like a crush.”
“I had one!”
“Me, right?”
“Nope."
“Wasn’t it me, Sally? You told me it was me.”
“Nope. Sorry, it was before I met you. My Biology teacher.”
“Seriously?”
“Seriously.”
“Should I worry, Sally?”
“Nope.”
“Swear.”
“I swear, Tommie.”
“Awww love.”
“What?”
“Ours is awww love.”
“Really, Tommie?”
“Yeah.”
“Awww.”
“Silly girl.”
“So, when do we tell our parents?”
“Not yet. We still have a long time ahead of us, I guess. Soon, Sally, soon.”
“Soon, when, Tommie?”
“Maybe in a couple of years. We are still 15 and 17 years old. They won’t understand.”
“Why not?”
“Because they think we aren’t adult enough to fall in love.”
“Weird, huh?”
“So totally weird.”
