So Emotional contest entry: gratitude
She is hurting but doesn't know why. She doesn't understand what's made her so sad. Her parents have noticed and decided to sit her down and discuss the issue or issues. They've asked her to come out to the living room where they waited. She entered the room slowly.

"Honey, sit down," mom said. She's always the calm one, only getting excited when she got mad. "We can tell that something's been on your mind for the past week. We were hoping you'd come to us, but since you haven't we're coming to you. Can you tell us what's going on?"

She put her head down for a moment then looked up at her mom. She looked over to her dad, then back to her mom. "I don't know," she sobbed. She cried and her shoulders shook while she covered her face in her hands.

Her mom went to her and embraced her little girl. She held her and let her cry while dad watched. He tried to understand the emotion but just couldn't quite grasp the differences between boys and girls.

After a good cry she began to feel a little better. Her dad handed her some Kleenex and squeezed her hand. Maybe that's all she needed - someone to ask her what was wrong. It certainly seemed to open the flood gates.

"Mom. Dad. I really don't know what's wrong with me. I just feel sad. There's nothing going on at school or even in the drama club." Dad laughed at that statement and she gave him a kind of dirty look.

"I'm sorry, baby. It was just a little funny...you know, there's no drama going on in the drama club," he snickered. Apparently no one else found it as hilarious as he did.

"You two are the best."
