For "Love Shouldn't Hurt".
Tired tracks
in this desert stand
and up jumps the boogie
man again
to rehatch his plan
for defeating me
like you know
you're defeating me.

The silence is deafening.
The compliants are willing.
You're my biggest threat
when threatening my biggest
         fears.

I stand up to watch you fall,
only to
sit down again
so I can
gather my only self.
"Buy some time!" my head shrieks.
"GTFO" my sinking heart says.
No one knows better.
We just watch the spins,
         making the best
of the worst
of our best
at our worst.

There are
tire tracks
in this sand
and we are both to blame.
They bear
your name
and my scars
and we don't get
very far.

There is no "getting far". We don't "get" at all.
