A short poem about our 12th President for AUG 2016 The Challenge
President Zachary Taylor
November 24, 1784 – July 9, 1850
In office March 4, 1849 – July 9, 1850

President Taylor, Army Major General—
Great with the troops, but not so much
With political groups. He was a Whig,
The best of the four though that was no chore
As they were William Henry Harrison, John Tyler,
And former Vice President Millard Fillmore.

President Taylor, without much political skill
You did your best and lived right for the rest
Of your very short life after office. Only
Seventeen months in, then down with something
Perhaps from contaminated fruit that you ate.
Rest in peace 12th President of the U.S.A.
