Winning Writer's Cramp Contest Entry 2/18/17
"Couldn't you hear me knocking?" she asked, incredulously. Loretta stood in the doorway of her husband’s laboratory with her hands on her hips. She looked around the room and saw colorful chemicals bubbling in several beakers, and her husband was ignoring her and lighting another Bunsen burner. “Beckett, what on earth are you doing? It smells awful in here…”

Suddenly, Loretta felt a cold hand on her right shoulder.
“It would be in your best interest to leave us alone,” a brash voice whispered in Loretta’s ear.

Loretta gasped and turned around quickly. A tall, blue, human-like creature stood before her. His eyes met Loretta’s and he pushed her up against a wall. He started choking her aggressively, and yet, Beckett continued to monitor the experiments without showing any signs of concern.

“I…can’t…breathe...Beckett…do something!” Loretta begged.
Beckett did not even look at his wife.
Loretta became unconscious and dropped to the floor. The creature walked towards Beckett and started studying the experiments.

“Nice, very nice, Beckett. The captain will be very pleased with you,” said the creature, as he rubbed his hands.
“It is my will to please you, master,” said Beckett.
The creature could not be more ecstatic. He believed that Beckett was ready to be abducted, and the formula he created would successfully possess several more human beings.

Beckett started to fill the formula in glass ampules after they cooled down, and the creature led him outside into the backyard.
It was a clear, starry night. In the sky, a large UFO was hovering over Beckett and Loretta’s house. Suddenly, a green light from the ship started shining directly on Beckett, and he began to float gracefully into the air, until he finally entered the ship.

Beckett looked around the ship. He was surrounded by more blue, human-like creatures who were all grinning at him. A young creature was holding his father’s hand.

“Is that really a human, Daddy?” the little creature asked.
The captain picked up his son and exclaimed, “Why, yes, my son! We have finally abducted our first human being. Isn’t he just disgusting?”

The little creature hopped down and went closer to Beckett. He gazed his big, glassy eyes at the human’s face. “Why, Daddy, he does not look much different than you,” the little creature said, “Other than a little peachy rather than blue.”

The other blue creatures instantly looked at the captain for a reaction. The captain was very embarrassed and said to his son, “How can you say that? I brought this piece of vile up here so he can be our slave.”

The little creature picked up the container holding the different ampules of formula. “But Daddy, he is genius, why should we treat him like a servant? We could learn a great deal from him and the other ones just like him,” replied the little creature.

The whole ship was filled with laughter. The little blue creature turned a shade of purple and tears began to fill his eyes.
“Son, don’t you want someone to treat you like a prince? Someone that will pick up your toys and do your chores? This human is coming back with us, and he is not one of us, what else is he supposed to do on our planet?” replied the captain.

The little boy started holding Beckett’s hands and again, he looked straight into his eyes. “If I were a prince, I would want to make Beckett feel welcomed,” he said.

Suddenly, Beckett was in control of his own body and mind again. “What, where am I? Where is Loretta? Who are all of you?” asked Beckett.
The little creature smiled and said, “We are the Woskam, from the planet Woska. We come in peace.”

The captain became furious, and without even thinking, he kicked the container with all the ampules and glass was shattered all over the ship floor.

“Are you happy, SON? Do you see what you just DID? You have completely ruined my entire plan of the Woskam having human servants for generations!” shouted the captain.

“I…didn’t mean to...I was just trying to be nice…” the little creature cried.
The little creature sobbed and Beckett held him in his arms. “Thank you for being so kind to me, little one,” Beckett whispered.

The captain shook his head. “That’s it, we are turning this ship around.”
The ship headed back to earth and landed in Beckett’s backyard.
The little creature looked at his father and said, “Can I at least say good-bye to Beckett?”

The captain scorned at his son and replied, “Why would you need to say good-bye to him, for I am disowning you and leaving you on earth with him.” The captain then pushed Beckett and his son out of the ship.

Beckett helped the little creature up, and began to comfort him. The little creature was crying and exclaimed, “I just don’t belong anywhere. I don’t know what to do.”

Suddenly, the patio lights turned on and Loretta came out. “What is going on, Beckett? Are you okay? Who is this?” asked Loretta.

Beckett ran towards Loretta and embraced her. He reached out and held the little creatures hand. “This is our new son,” Beckett said, “We always wanted a child, Loretta, and here he is.”

Loretta didn’t fully understand, but she began to cry and hugged the little creature. “What is your name, little one? What can we call you?” she asked.

“My name is Toby,” he replied. He started to cry and said, “I never knew my mother, and you are just so beautiful.”
The new family walked inside and turned off the patio lights. Toby looked outside the window with Beckett and Loretta and said, “It is sure good to be home.”
