A poem about long awaited rain.

Two am, awake to thunder
Rolling, thudding in the night.
Bright flashes of blue light
Zapping through the house.

Dry at first, rapid electric flashes
Increasing the tension
That had been building with swaggering
Blue cloud mountains all evening.

Released at last when a faint tapping
Rain falls lightly onto the iron roof.
Becoming faster and harder until it almost
Drowns out the thunderclaps.

I get up to check. From the balcony I see
A solid wall of water falling, streaming, linking
Sky and earth.
The rains are here!
