Prompt Words: fireflies, campfires, creeks, trees, fishing pole, marshmallows, summer
It was a marshmallow summer!

You know the type I mean
long hot days,
short cool nights,
campfires flickering,
and fireflies blinking.

There were no creeks
where we lived,
so Grandpa took us to The Lake.

I remember,
Grandma and I
sat under the trees
enjoying the cool evening breeze.

Grandpa
and my brothers,
each with a fishing pole in hand,
stood on the boat dock
casting their lines
into the muddy Chikaskia River.

It didn't matter
if they caught any fish
because we would end the night
roasting marshmallows
and listening to Grandpa
tell tall tales.
