Written from prompt, a memorable childhood event.
I Have a Hero . .

Her screams broke
into my dreams.
Scuffling
and loud voices followed.
Alone in a big strange bed,
too scared to move.

A silhouette
through frosted glass in
the bathroom door,
two women hugging
one was crying. It was Mommy.
I cried too.

Blue and red
lights flashed
through the open door
where Uncle Ray
took Daddy to sit outside
on the porch steps talking low.

Daddy went away
Uncle Ray picked me up,
carried me back to bed
and said, "It's OK Honey,
you'll always be safe with me."
