A Poem about life's journey and not always winning.
I traveled upon my life's path,
Filled with sorrow, filled with wrath.
Always following someone else,
Always left upon the shelf.
I needed to escape this rut,
Though I sought, I knew not what.

Then suddenly, a turn appeared,
On this course, my life was steered.
But dare I leave all those behind,
While they think I’ve lost my mind.
I loved them so, I did invite,
They said no, showing me slight.

Alone, though dark, I made my way,
Searching for the light of day.
Hoping dearly that I might find,
The one thing for which I pined.
Yet comfort? No. Here there was none,
I started missing those I’d shunned.

But suddenly, a light appeared,
I moved, with caution, slowly neared,
Seeing the way, I quickly dove,
Found myself, inside a grove.
It teemed with life, and people too.
Yet best of all, I found you.

Your smile, your laugh, your decency,
Were all things attracting me.
Your talent, wit, your very mind,
Were all things I wished to find,
With joy, I gave you my own heart,
Wishing that we’d never part.

Yet it was not for what you sought,
Love is nothing to be bought.
In truth, to me nothing you owed,
Except my heart, which you let go.
You left me there, you were not bound,
My heart crashed upon the ground.

I gathered up the pieces quick,
Your exit left me feeling sick.
Back to the path, I quickly fled.
With little hope, I felt dead.
With time I nursed, my wounded pride,
One day hoped, to feel inside.

So my search for eternal bliss,
Was it worth all that I miss?
“Yes!” is the answer, I retort,
One day soon, I won’t fall short.
After all these years, it’ll be sweet,
My true love, I'll surely meet.
