My final, revised premise for Tangled Roots - NaNo 2017
Laura Weber is my main character. My character’s major flaw is that she is a bit self-conscious. She cares for people – all people. Which shouldn’t be a flaw, but it will be in this novel. If she were to not care, she would not be in danger. She would not be facing losing her best and only friend and her boyfriend if she did not care so much about someone she neve met who died so many years ago.
Her goal is to find who killed Sandy Prescott and what happened that he was killed. When she finds out about the car accident that killed Jed’s wife, she will want to get to the bottom of that – that was why he was killed, so she needs to get to the bottom of al of this. That is her goal.
There are several conflicts. The biggest conflict is that the Jorgensen family still has a lot of power in Murphy County. MJ is the DA, which means he is in a position to still threaten the people who know he was actually the one who killed Elaine in the car accident. Another conflict will be what Laura could possibly lose as she tries to attain her goal – her friend, her boyfriend, and possibly even cause her aunt Jean to be in danger.
The antagonist is MJ Jorgensen, for the most part, but also his father James. The antagonist is a town that does not want the truth to be uncovered.
Premise: Laura Weber wants the truth, but it could cost her dearly.
The theme is people of power thinking they are above the law.
