Memories of Christmases Past
Christmas, the Holiday Season, has arrived,
Happy and sad memories thrive,
Recollections of Christmases past,
Invade my thoughts, unbidden and unasked.
Such is the way of the human mind,
Tears of joy and sorrow are combined,
Making December bitter-sweet,
A depressing month with Christmas treats:
Santa Claus and birthday presents.

My sibling and I in Christmas pageants,
Each retelling the story of Christ's nativity.
Memorizing scriptures for the plays,
Opening Santa's gifts on Christmas day,
Receiving birthday presents on Christmas Eve;
I now smile and laugh with each memory,
Even those that used to bring me to tears,
Sadness is overcome in my maturing years.
