Because who ever expects one?

An unexpected dragon rears its head,
eyes whirling to crimson slits yet
baiting its breath. Waiting.

An unexpected dragon erupts,
wings unfurled, tightly restrained from flight;
taut, prepared.

An unexpected dragon emerges,
claws unfurled; ready, willing
to filet. Listening.

An unexpected dragon roars,
breath tinged with banked fires,
willing to incinerate. Yet patient.

Looking at me, listening to me,
the unsuspecting are too blind to see
who I truly am.

Their misfortune.
