February 8 prompt for the Construct Cup Chinese New Year Edition.
Free spirits who need space to be themselves.
They are strong believers of chasing their dreams
With energy at full throttle
They can be studious and athletic
Yet they are also baffled by those
Who don't operate at the same speed.
Wealth and fame are trivial aspirations
But it is happiness that drives them
Motivating them to a desperate level
To reach this place of contentment.

There is a darker more shadowy side as well,
One that lurks and presents itself in ever changing emotions
Where tempers run high, but shrivel and burn out quickly
And when all is settled, they forget...
Is that just bad memory?
Or do they choose to let go of the past
A past that holds them back, like a bridle and bit
Constraining them to comply
What is this irony?
This freedom they need and desire
Reined in by others wanting to control them
A thoroughbred heart must fly
Or else is will whither and die
As it is confined in hopelessness.

Blinders keep them focused on their goal,
But they also hide what is around them
Can one really be blind to one's faults?
Or are they just looking to the distance
Where dreams roam the vast plain
Wild and free.

Lines = 30.
