a pantoum about the struggles of daily life and the strength to keep going on
A simple breakfast, a tiny win; Fuel for the fire
That keeps me moving through the day.
I bought new shoes and hate to think
Of how long it will take me to break them in.

That keeps me moving through the day,
Pressing on, like so much water through the gorge.
Obstacles create thick walls. I break them in
And bruise myself, but the pain is worth it.

I see my goal and feel my pupils become engorged.
I take in the light and release determination
Through my every movement. I can feel it,
Like so much lightning in the storm.

Even when I fall, I can feel my determination
Pick me up and carry me like wings,
Delivering me on the heavy winds of the storm,
Terrified but ready to meet my next challenge.

They put me down in the winner’s circle, my wings
The night dulls the pain of today’s challenge.
Another win, a taste of victory; fuel for the fire.
My shoes are finally broken in. Once again, I can think.

The rising sun brings both hope and my next opponent.
