Flash fiction (with the words: doll, barn, dark)
She sat alone. That was not common. Usually there were others. They had been together for as long as she could recollect. There was Bart though he hardly spoke. Fred was different. He always had something intelligent to say. Lucy was the friendliest of them all and always made it a point to make everyone feel comfortable and important.

Today, they'd all left without telling her. It was late afternoon and she took a few tentative steps and peered outside the barn. Where had everyone gone?

In the distance, she could hear a low staccato rumble. She gave it no heed as the farms around them regularly had tractors and other noisy vehicles moving around.

She was starting to feel lonely and the a bit uncomfortable with the solitude. The sound she had heard earlier was no more a distant distraction. It was loud and distinct. She went out again, this time with more fear. Sure enough, there was a big yellow monster of a contraption on wheels.

It headed past her and straight for the house. She wanted to yell and warn the folks but no sound came out of her. She watched, helpless.
The yellow beast made short work of the home which was mostly made of wood. The telltale signs of an abode on the now empty patch of land were broken pieces of beam and glass

The wheels turned in an unnatural fashion. Menacing and purposeful. She knew she had to get out fast. She had nowhere to go. It was getting dark and she had never been out that late.

The grinding cacophony started again and the structure collapsed. She was trapped but what could she do? She was but a little girl's doll.
