A poem about resilience, rebirth, and metamorphosis
Old Man Gloom
I want to burn his effigy
Clear the path
In front of me
Through the smoke
I can see
The exact place
The land rises to meet me

My body may falter
But my spirit
Will fly free
Wait and see
Wait and see
Brown and gold
Green and gray
The colors of
Serenity

Mother nature
Set me free
For time has not been
Good to me
Plant your seed
So that I can be born again
With the Spring
Alone, I sing
A baby wren
Pushed from the nest too soon

But with each new moon
My eyes grow wide
And yellow
Like the horned owl
I swoop down on my prey
And I have it
Life's energy
Only to return to my wretched slumber
When dawn's appearance
Startles me

But no! Never again!
This time
I'll be
Wide awake
