A trip of a poem about a dream I often have about a creature coming for me at night.

Beyond
Walls
Outside
Home
There
Opposing
Here
Away
Closer
Farther
Fearing
Reality
Searing
Few
If any
Me
None
Not one
Them
Admitting
Admissions
Failings
Such humans
Out there
Reality
Squared
Existing
Outside
All corners
Laid bare
Lives
A creature
Roaming
A teacher
Fighting
Every war
Killing
Every foe
Justifiable
To him
Murder
Victim
Or victimizer
No time
To spare
Decisively
Deciding
Who is next
I
Am aware
I
Understand
Clear
Precise
A dream
Truth
Reality
Made bare
Fair
Least of all
Close
Him and I
Creatures
Abominable
Aberrations
Turned understatements
Defining him
Myself
Becoming
Evermore impossible
Dark tree shadowing
Standing
Tall
Crooked
True
Alone
The day
Empty
The night
Clear vision
From my room
I see it
I know it
Out there
Colder still
My protector
His rejector
Standing true
Hiding
What’s next
Plain view
He
All beast
Comes close
Hearing
Feeling really
His claws
Digging the wood
His fangs
Pulling the bark
Ripping it
Like flesh
Crunching it up
Gulping it down
Sustenance
At least for now
All night long
He goes at it
Shredding
Tearing
Dark tree shadowing
Waiting
Wanting
For me to rise up
Escape
Fleeing here
For out there
Facing
Embracing
Him as real
As before
He
Wants a taste
A devouring bite
Another chunk
Of my very soul
Never
Ever
Will he
Could he
Stop
When
Day comes
He hides away
Back
Behind these eyes
Deeper still
Into this mind
But when the night
Again, does arrive
He will return
Damaging me
Even more
Taking
Removing
What he can
Not as he wishes
There are others
Plenty of victims
Ones
He has consumed
All la carte
It is I
Who is his
Most desired
Gourmet dish
Dark tree shadowing
Protecting
Me as is
It won’t
It can’t
Stand forever
It won’t
It can’t
Suffer always
Sooner or later
It will fall
Each darker night
He rips and tears
At the foundation
Of what between
Him and I
Has become
As always was
Imminent…
